The beautiful Lake District of England has long inspired poets, writers, and artists and you’ll quickly discover why during this carefully curated travel experience. From Beatrix Potter’s charming cottage, to the village that inspired William Wordsworth, our time in the Lake District will simply take your breath away with stunning vistas at every turn.
In addition to the Lake District you’ll be touring many of the region’s finest country houses and gardens including Wentworth Woodhouse, Newby Hall and Harewood House, as seen in Downton Abbey®.
Later in the week we will explore the stunning North York Moors National Park. Our time in the region will include unforgettable visits to picturesque villages and the stunning seaside town of Whitby.

Day 1 - Monday
- Morning arrivals to Manchester
Manchester is easily reached from London via the train or by air to Manchester Airport - 1:00pm | Coach departure from central Manchester
- Journey to Keswick in the heart of the Lake District
- Late afternoon scenic cruise on Windermere

On Monday, we begin the tour by leaving the bustling city of Manchester for the stunning Lake District. Once we arrive into the region, you'll quickly discover why the beauty of the area has captured the hearts of so many over the centuries.
In the afternoon we will enjoy a scenic cruise on Windermere, the largest lake in England as well as a reception and dinner to follow as you settle into the Lake District. The first two days of the tour will include accommodations at the fine Keswick Country House Hotel in the lovely town of Keswick.
Day 2 - Tuesday
- Breakfast at The Keswick Country House Hotel
- All day exploration of the Lake District to include many of the top sites in the area
- Visit through Grasmere and the stunning Honister Pass
- Castlerigg Stone Circle and Hill Top Cottage, the home of Beatrix Potter
- Evening at your leisure in Keswick
- Overnight at The Keswick Country House Hotel
Tuesday includes a memorable, full day exploration of the Lake District. We will start the day with a delicious breakfast, followed by visits to multiple lakes, visitor attractions, and gorgeous scenery. You'll marvel at the ancient Castlerigg Stone Circle, and be taken across the Honister Pass for the best views in the region.
Today will also include a visit to Hill Top, Beatrix Potter's charming cottage and gardens, plus a visit to the village that inspired poet William Wordsworth.
After a full day, we will return for an evening to explore lovely Keswick, just steps from our beautiful hotel, The Keswick Country House Hotel.
Day 3 - Wednesday
- Breakfast at The Keswick Country House Hotel
- Scenic drive thru the Lake District
- Travel to Newby Hall with a tour of the house and gardens
- Coach journey to the historic city of York
- Overnight accommodations at The Grand, York's top-rated, 5-star hotel
On Wednesday, we will leave the Lake District behind to head to the beautiful county of Yorkshire. Our first stop will be a tour of Newby Hall & Gardens, one of the best kept secrets in Yorkshire. Why you ask? Well this private country house was designed by the renowned architect Robert Adam. Not only is the house magnificent, but so are the gardens.
After Newby Hall we are off to the historic city of York. Here we will stay for the next three nights at the city's finest, 5-star luxury hotel, The Grand, York.
Day 4 - Thursday
- Breakfast at The Grand, York
- Day out to the North York Moors
- Visit to the village of Pickering
- Visit to picturesque Goathland village and Goathland Station, as seen in Downton Abbey® and Harry Potter®
Goathland village is famous as the fictional "Aidensfield" in TV series Heartbeat - Tour of Whitby, one of England’s finest seaside towns
- View the ruins of Whitby Abbey, featured in Bram Stoker’s Dracula
- Visits to the villages of Helmsley and Hovingham
- Evening at leisure for further exploration of York
- Overnight at The Grand, York
Today after a delicious breakfast in York, we will depart for a full day of exploration in North Yorkshire. The day will include visits to the beautiful villages of Goathland, Helmsley, as well as stunning views within the North York Moors National Park.
Guests will enjoy a memorable tour of Whitby to include Whitby Abbey and a chance for fresh fish and chips in the town centre (renowned throughout the country!) It will be a full day of beautiful scenery, and iconic locations.
Day 5 - Friday
- Breakfast in The Grand, York
- Morning departure from York
- A visit to Harewood House and gardens
One of England’s best country houses, as seen in Downton Abbey® - A visit to the lovely spa town of Harrogate
- A sumptuous afternoon tea at Betty's in Harrogate
- Dinner and evening at leisure in York
- Overnight at The Grand, York
Today we will visit one of Yorkshire's finest stately homes, Harewood House. This magnificent house was built between 1759 and 1771. Guests will marvel at the interiors designed by Robert Adam as well as explore the magnificent grounds and gardens designed by Lancelot "Capability" Brown. Harewood today is home to the Lascelles family and was featured in the 2019 Downton Abbey® motion picture as the home of Princess Mary.
In the afternoon we will head to the famous spa town of Harrogate to enjoy a full afternoon tea at Betty's – renowned throughout England as one of the finest places for afternoon tea. The evening will end back in York – with time to explore and enjoy this beautiful walled city.
Day 6 - Saturday
- Breakfast at The Grand, York
- Visit to the remarkable Wentworth Woodhouse
- Tour of the house and gardens at Wentworth Woodhouse
- Coach journey to Manchester
- Farewell group dinner in Manchester
- Overnight at The Midland, Manchester
A historic and highly-rated hotel
Today we will enjoy the magnificence of Wentworth Woodhouse, which is undergoing a restoration project. During our tour you will hear how the painstaking process is taking place room by room to save this glorious house for future generations. Not only is the house one to remember, but so are the gardens, which guests will enjoy after our tour.
Later in the day we will head back to Manchester for our farewell dinner and a toast to what has been a superb week in the Great North of England.
Day 7 - Sunday
- Breakfast at The Midland, Manchester
- Departures after breakfast
Today guests will enjoy a delicious breakfast in The Midland Hotel, located in the heart of Manchester. After breakfast guests can check out at leisure, or you may want to continue your exploration of the area.
